Easy Decorating Ideas for a Magical Holiday Home
When it comes to decking the halls for the holidays, most folks limit
their efforts to trimming the tree and hanging a wreath on the door.
Why stop there? We've got 15 easy ways to give your holiday home a
fabulously festive look, from top to bottom!
1) Arrange a collection of unusual tree ornaments in a glass bowl or
vase for a last-minute centerpiece.
2) Drape exterior doors and windows in pine or spruce branches. (Most
tree lots give away leftover branches for free!) To keep them fresh,
mist the boughs with water daily.
3) Wrap your framed artwork in holiday paper to resemble gifts
hanging on your walls.
4) Hang empty gift-wrapped boxes from the branches of a tree in your
front yard (be sure to use waterproof paper).
5) Decorate a miniature tree with sparkly pins, necklaces, and
earrings from your costume jewelry collection and place it in your
bedroom or bathroom.
6) Tie organza ribbons around the stems of wine glasses for added
glamour at the dinner table.
7) Place pinecones in a decorative basket by your front door,
Christmas tree, or fireplace (but not too close to the flames).
8) Use only candles, tree lights, and the fireplace to illuminate
your home when company comes over. It will create a warm and cozy atmosphere.
9) Hang strings of twinkle lights on large house plants and tie
festive bows around the pots.
10) Spray paint a grapevine wreath with white paint, sprinkle glitter
over it and let dry. Weave silver or pastel colored tulle through the vine.
11) Decorate interior doors to resemble large gifts using wide ribbon
and wrapping paper.
12) Line your walkway with luminary bags to welcome company and guide
them safely to the door in icy weather.
13) Hang ornaments from the ceiling over your dining room table with
ribbons or fishing wire.
14) Tie wide velvet ribbon around ordinary objects in your home,
including lamp bases, stairway banisters, and pictures.
15) Stack red apples on a cake stand in a pyramid design and tuck in
some holly leaves for a colorful, edible display.
